Make Cannabis Oil with your Vaporizer!

The easiest Cannabis Oil Recipe

We’re going to let you in on a little secret: the easiest way to make cannabis oil is by using your already vaped bud (AVB)! Read on to find out how, and the science behind it! Or, skip to the vapes in the online store to start making the easiest cannabis oil now!

The Science: Decarboxylation

Decarboxylation is simply “a chemical reaction that removes a carboxyl group and releases carbon dioxide (CO2)” [wiki]. When it comes to marijuana, decarboxylation effectively removes the COOH group from the THC-A molecule by releasing H2O (water) an CO2 (carbon dioxide), turning it into the psychoactive THC.

In short, you need to decarb your dried flower to turn the naturally occurring THC-A into the psychoactive THC. Many people combust their dried flower by rolling a joint, using a pipe or bong, etc. But, like many people say, combusting your dry herb is kind of like baking a cookie with a blow torch – overkill! The boiling point of cannabinoids (THC, CBD and the like) are between 300-430 degrees, while the temperature of a lighter is well over 3,000!

The Recipe: It’s as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Vape your cannabis as usual. Try a lower temperature setting if you’re not already doing so. You’ll get the same relief, but you won’t be decarbing all of the THC out of the cannabis. Even better: you’ll be getting a much better flavour profile of all the terpenes!
  2. Keep your AVB (already vaped bud) until you’ve saved up at least 1/4 cup.
  3. Grind your AVB (if it isn’t already) to ensure it’s broken down into an even grind. Measure equal parts oil or butter (your choice!) and your ground AVB into a pot on your stovetop and heat gently. Keep stirring over low heat for at least 20mins, then let cool.
  4. Okay, one more step – but it’s still easy! Strain the solids with cheesecloth, a coffee filter or teabag, and you’re all set! Store in an airtight container and scoop some out to medicate individual edibles, add to a smoothie, or make any number of other products: topical rubs, lube, etc.
